When people hear the term “chiropractor” they immediately think of a specialist who helps people with back and neck pain. However, there is a great deal more to the story than that, and anyone who is interested in holistic health (the idea that the entire body has to be taken into consideration when any one thing is malfunctioning) will want to consider the value of chiropractic healing.
A Baby’s Story
Just take the example of a young baby experiencing months of endless ear infections. A second child, his older sister had never had a single ear infection or complaint, and yet the baby in this example had been combating one ear infection after another. On the advice of family friends, the parents visited a chiropractor.
The physician discovered that the baby had some minor subluxations. This is very interesting because many chiropractors look for these variations in the position of spinal bones. They do this because they believe that the integrity of the spine protects the integrity of health in general.
The baby in this story had several vertebrae that were out of the normal or expected position. This would interfere with the regular function of the nervous system, and this in turn influenced the health and function of some organs. In this case, the baby’s ears were somehow responding to the disruption created by the subluxation. Did treatment remedy the ear infections? Yes, after just one or two visits to the chiropractor, the child’s ear infections came to an end.
What This Means
This tells us that a chiropractor is not just someone to turn to when you experience pain in the back or neck. They may be someone who can help with chronic headaches, difficulties associated with arthritis, and more.
This is why it stands apart in the world of modern medicine and is given a high level of validity over other alternative medicine treatments. It is one of the few forms of complementary or alternative treatment that consistently gets an official nod from formal medical practitioners. You see this in the many instances of chiropractic treatment being recommended or incorporated into a traditional medical regimen.
However, chiropractic is also an alternative system of medicine, which we saw in the example above. Rather than turning to a regimen of antibiotics (which had not managed to remedy an ear infection) the parents of the baby considered that something else might be triggering the problems with the infant’s ears.
Like others who see that chiropractic healing can be used for preventative care and ongoing wellness, the parents in the example learned about the holistic possibilities of chiropractic treatment. The same would apply to all infants, children, adults, and seniors who struggled with a minor health complaint. Rather than viewing a health problem as specifically related to just one organ (the ear, the stomach, the back, etc.), holistic care (and chiropractic can be holistic) wonders if there is not an underlying cause.
Give chiropractic healing a chance if you find you are struggling with a constant health problem that traditional remedies are failing to cure.
